Think of your network as your team: instead of seeing your network as a means to an end or seeing it as a dreaded obligation. The best candidates and public officials have an incredible team – small or large – helping make the whole process work—from staff and volunteers to donors and supporters. But they also know that these relationships are reciprocal. They show up for each other. These people are on your team, but you’ll also be on their team.

Laying the groundwork to run for office generally requires networks that often include campaign mentors, personal support networks, political acumen, organizing professionals, fundraising and campaign expertise, communications pros, issue advocacy thought leaders, and members in the communities you want to serve. Don’t be overwhelmed. This is doable. Let’s start with what you already know. This exercise will take between 10 and 15 minutes to complete.
