The Giving Season’s Lasting Impact
by Jennifer Rivera and Sophia O’Neal
What difference can I make?
If you’ve spent the past few weeks pondering this question, know that you’re not alone. Thousands of women nationwide–from all walks of life–have come to She Should Run following the election to ask that very question, along with a few more. Where do I start? Is there anything I can do today? What organizations can I support?
We’re here to tell you. Action in community-based organizations is the most immediate and direct way we can advocate for ourselves, our loved ones, and the issues we care most deeply about. And donating to these organizations is the quickest and easiest way to make a direct impact on a cause you care about.
Within 24 hours of the election being called, She Should Run saw a staggering 743% increase in the number of women taking first steps to explore their potential future in elected leadership. By reading this blog, you’re part of the wave of women ready to take action in their communities. We’re so glad to have you join us!
In a time of grave uncertainty, one thing remains steadfast: when the going gets tough, women take action. We’ve compiled a short list of organizations that are putting in the work around the country on some of the issues most impacting women in America today. We encourage you to explore their websites, support their missions, and give any amount you can today.
- Everytown for Gun Safety advocates for gun control and works to implement measures in the fight against gun violence.
- Reproductive Freedom for All (previously named NARAL Pro-Choice America) advocates to expand access to reproductive healthcare and rights.
- Earthjustice uses the law to protect the environment and people’s right to health.
- Color of Change funnels sources toward creating an equitable future, with a focus on the fight against racial injustice.
- And, of course, She Should Run! We work to drastically increase the number of women considering a run for office. She Should Run is the only national, nonpartisan organization nurturing future elected leaders from all walks of life exclusively before they run for office. We are working to disrupt the same-old approach to recruiting women into political leadership and instead working to give women approachable resources demystifying the path to becoming an elected official.
December has always been a significant time for organizations like ours to fundraise, and as we brace for what’s to come in 2025, your contributions this giving season are going to have an even more powerful impact. Remember, change is incremental and progress is not promised–it requires continuous support and commitment from all of us.
